Al Rajhi Reveals Saudi Arabia's New Unemployment Goal: Achieving 5% by 2030
The Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Eng. Ahmed Al Rajhi, has stated that by 2030, the Saudi Arabian government aspires to slash the unemployment rate among residents to 5 percent. Over the past four years, approximately 300,000 Saudi Arabian individuals found employment in specialized occupations such as accounting, engineering, pharmacy, and radiology technician, due to the qualitative localization program. Al Rajhi revealed that the nation’s labor market strategy has successfully been implemented at a rate of 84 percent. A revised, highly ambitious strategy has been proposed to propel the Saudi labor market amongst the world’s best labor markets.
Under the human resources and social development system, significant accomplishments have been made, including reducing the total unemployment rate to 3.3 percent from 6 percent in 2018. The unemployment rate among Saudis dropped from 12.8 percent in 2018 to a current 7.1 percent. Furthermore, women’s economic participation has surpassed its 2030 goal of 30 percent and currently stands at 35 percent. The ministry disclosed that since the Vision’s inception, 120,000 social security beneficiaries have become self-reliant and contributory to the economy, hinting that an expenditure of SR41 billion was allocated to support citizens in coping with the high cost of living in 2024.
Training has also been noted to have major progress with the provision of 10.3 million training opportunities in cooperation with the private sector. The goal of counting one million volunteers by 2030 in the Vision is set to be achieved by 2024, hence a new target of 1.5 million volunteers has been established for 2030.
