The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo is set to unveil a grand mural entitled Celebration of Diversity . This attraction, located in the school’s atrium, is an artistic expression of the importance of diversity, community, and inclusivity to the institution. Julia Bottoms, a local artist, has spent several months creating this mural that spans 50 feet wide and stands 16 feet tall from the floor to ceiling.

The Celebration of Diversity mural will be unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in the second-floor atrium of the Jacobs School, located at 955 Main St., Buffalo. The mural showcases ten current students, fellows, residents, and alumni of the Jacobs School, some of whom will grace the event. Notable speakers at the event will include Allison Brashear, MD, vice president for health sciences and dean of the Jacobs School; Julia Bottoms, the artist, and Raul Vazquez, MD, a 1989 Jacobs School graduate.

The creation and completion of this mural were made possible through contributions from various individuals and bodies such as the Vazquez family, numerous offices within the university, the Medical Alumni Association, and the UB Art Committee, among others.
