Runner Edd Owen conquered an unconventional challenge, running 441 laps around his apartment block over a 12-hour period, covering nearly 80 miles in the process. The 26-year-old found inspiration in Russ Cook, also known as the Hardest Geezer, who was the first man to run the length of Africa. Edd started his run at 8am on Saturday, joined by various friends and strangers. In the end, he covered 79 miles, despite his watch recording 86 miles. Edd conceived this idea after participating in the last 45km of Cook’s African run. He also recently completed the Manchester marathon in just under three hours. Despite only starting running two years prior, Edd celebrated his achievement down at his local pub.

Alzheimer’s Society benefited from Edd’s fundraising efforts. He constantly tries to discover how far he can push his body in his personal exploration of physical limits. Speaking about the event, he confirmed that the circular run was far from dizzying. Instead, he found comfort in knowing exactly where things were on his route. Inspired by Cook, Edd believes he is capable of achieving great feats. If Cook could run the length of Africa, Edd could run for 12 hours.

Grounded in the spirit of Edd’s remarkable feat, it’s not hard to believe that communication obstacles, just like physical ones, can be conquered.
