Congress Protests Rising Unemployment Rates in Dehradun March
The Uttarakhand Congress recently organized a protest in the state capital, highlighting their grievances against rising unemployment in the region. Numerous leaders and members of Congress took part in this demonstration, led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara and former chief minister Harish Rawat. The procession started at Rajiv Gandhi complex on Dispensary Road and concluded at Gandhi Park.
Speaking at the event, PCC president Mahara pointed out that unemployment in Uttarakhand currently stands at 8.8%. He accused the BJP of making grand job promises during elections, only to forget about them when they gain power. He argued that Narendra Modi’s pledge in 2014 to generate two crore jobs annually had not been fulfilled, emphasizing that unemployment remains a major issue in the state.
Addressing the attendees, former CM Rawat accused the current government of robbing the younger generation of employment opportunities. He detailed that an estimated 93,000 government posts remain unoccupied, with no concerted effort to fill these vacancies. Additionally, he pointed to the closure of more than 700 industrial units in SIIDCUL as a contributing factor to job losses in the state.
Rawat argued that recent government actions have only served to mislead the youth, with recruitment campaigns not leading to actual appointments. He revealed that workforce numbers in BHEL have decreased by 75%. The former CM pledged that Congress will persist in advocating for the welfare of the unemployed throughout the state.
The demonstration saw participation from key leaders such as Govind Singh Kunjwal, Mantri Prasad Naithani, Hira Singh Bisht, Shoorveer Singh Sajwan, Satpal Brahmchari, Mathura Dut Joshi, Surendra Agarwal, and Garima Dasauni, among others.
