Despite fluctuations in tech employment data within the last year, the majority of tech workers continued finding jobs, even in the face of layoffs. As of January 2024, several tech companies, such as Salesforce, Microsoft, and Google, had laid off tens of thousands of employees due to an economic pullback. However, Xerox was the only company to announce significant workforce cuts in the first week of 2024, with a 15% reduction affecting around 3,000 employees as part of a restructuring strategy.

Nevertheless, demand for tech talent is predicted to rise in 2024, as industry leaders like Ken Englund of consulting firm EY point out. In line with this, CIOs are expected to strike a balance between the economic and operational needs of their companies while integrating technology throughout the business. Ongoing workforce reductions in big tech companies may have lessened the Great Resignation’s impact, yet IT workers continue to seek new job opportunities.
