Decrease in Unemployment Rates Observed in 89 Tennessee Counties
Tennessee experienced a drop in unemployment rates in 89 of its 95 counties, despite its statewide unemployment rate rising from 3.3% to 3.5% in November. The national unemployment rate, however, saw a decrease from 3.9% to 3.7% during the same period. Tennessee’s rates are now moving closer to the national average. The counties with the lowest unemployment rates in the state were Moore at 2.4%, Williamson and Sevier at 2.6%, and Rutherford and Sumner at 2.7%. On the other hand, the highest rates were found in Perry (5.3%), Lauderdale (5.2%), Bledsoe (5.0%), Meigs (4.8%), Clay, McNairy, and Pickett (each at 4.7%). Out of all counties, 92 had rates below 5.0%. Unlike the statewide rate, which adjusts for seasonal events such as school breaks and weather, county unemployment rates do not make such adjustments.
