Five San Diego Locals Arraigned for Disability Insurance Fraud, Announces California Department of Insurance
March 27, 2024 - SAN DIEGO, Calif. — After a thorough investigation led by the California Department of Insurance and San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Tyler Andrew Liebowitz, 45, of San Diego was charged with 15 felony counts of insurance fraud. Liebowitz and four others, including his older brother Dean Craig Liebowitz, 52, of Del Mar, were accused of taking part in a conspiracy targeting the long-term disability policy of the brothers’ mother with fraudulent claims.
They purportedly defrauded the insurance company by submitting 63 fraudulent documents claiming that they were caregivers. Further investigations into the paperwork, bank statements, mobile phone data, and other sources, showed that many of the claims made for payments coincided with timeframes when no caregivers were around. The investigation also exposed discrepancies in assertions about the remuneration of the reported caregivers and the hours they supposedly worked.
Tyler Liebowitz was arrested on March 11, 2024, and Dean Liebowitz was taken into custody a week later on March 18, 2024. The other defendants turned themselves over to law enforcement authorities at their arraignments. San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will supervise the prosecution of these alleged offenses.
