The high unemployment rate within the country, particularly among the young population, has led to government action. The government has announced a project referred to as the Business in a Box (Biz Box), aimed at providing employment for approximately 250,000 young individuals. The project will focus on key sectors which are critical to the country’s economy, such as agriculture, tourism, the creative industry, construction, and agribusiness.

Beneficiaries of the $55-million project, set to be implemented nationwide, are primarily youth, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and vulnerable women. The Biz Box project plans to prioritize female-owned and young female-led businesses. The goal is to help reduce unemployment rates, particularly among these vulnerable groups, as it has severe implications for both individuals and the country.

The high prevalence of unemployment among young people is considered a security threat. This problem needs immediate attention, as the youth are set to become leaders of the future. This tasks becomes far more complex without financial stability and employment. The Biz Box has potential to be an effective solution, preparing the youth for financial stability and opening up opportunities within their fields of interest.

The Biz Box project intends to offer startups kits to 125,000 beneficiaries, provide market access support to 50,000 businesses, and offer regulatory support to 40,000 businesses. However, it is crucial that this support is given based on worthiness and ability, ensuring that competent individuals can effectively utilize the support to enhance the initiative.

The anticipation is that the Biz Box will prepare a new generation of young individuals to create, develop, and grow successful businesses. The hope is for these individuals to become innovators, leaders, and entrepreneurs capable of assisting others in turning their aspirations into significant accomplishments.
