Guiding Principles for New Owners of Wootton Farm: An Ethical Approach
Edd and Laura Devereux-Pilkington, the Directors of Wild Oak Farm, have acquired the lease for the Dores Hill site in Wootton. Previously successful in producing and supplying ethically farmed meats and eggs throughout the Island, the couple plan to expand their business by starting a farm shop & café as well as an antiques & collectables emporium.
The farm shop will focus on providing 100% grass fed, pasture raised beef and lamb. The couple uses sustainable farming techniques, eliminating the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals. This approach aligns with their livestock selection, all chosen to work harmoniously with the land and aid in soil health and ecosystem preservation.
Edd stated his anticipation for welcoming visitors to the farm, whether through the ‘Be a farmer for the day’ initiative or ‘Open Farm Sunday’. He also mentioned the farm shop & emporium as a new way for the farm to engage with the public. The couple hopes to share their experiences and knowledge gained along the way.
