Minnesota Experienced Job Growth and Decline in Unemployment in November
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) reports continued job growth in Minnesota for the fifth consecutive month, bringing the state’s unemployment rate down to 3.1 percent in November. The state saw the addition of 9,500 jobs, outperforming the national growth rate for the same period. Over the last three months, Minnesota has added 17,300 jobs, a growth of 0.6%, significantly higher than the national rate of 0.2 %.
DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek expresses optimism in the sustained job growth in Minnesota, highlighting the state’s consistent performance above the national average. The DEED and its workforce development partners are making active efforts to connect people with employment and guide employers towards often overlooked labor pools, hoping to bring more people into the labor force in 2024.
However, there was a decrease of 7,433 people in the state’s labor force over the month, causing a slight drop in the labor force participation rate to 68.3%, compared to 62.8% nationally.
