New Mexico EDD Supports Company in Reviving Long-Dormant Ethanol Plant
Navitas Global, a leading ethanol production facility based in Portales, New Mexico, has received significant financial assistance under the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA), administered by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD). Navitas, esteemed for its innovative practice of converting dairy processing byproducts into biofuels and high-protein animal feed, aligns with New Mexico’s focus on green, sustainable energy frameworks.
The LEDA has committed $800,000 to help create 31 new jobs boasting an estimated yearly payroll of $1.9 million and permitting a capital investment of up to $42 million. Well positioned under Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s administration’s support for green alternatives and sustainable economic growth, Navitas stands as a beacon for circular economy operations in the region. The Portales facility utilizes existing infrastructure and scarcely draws on scarce water resources.
Navitas was also granted Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) funds from EDD in June, which supports training of new hires with subsidies going directly to the company. The positions created by Navitas are eligible for higher rates of reimbursement, considering their frontier region location and high wage prerequisites. The facility, idle since 2012, is expected to be fully operational by the close of 2026.
