New Year Ushers in Lower Unemployment Rate for Valdosta
The November unemployment rate in Valdosta, Georgia, recorded a decrease of seven-tenths of a percent, bringing the rate to 3.1 percent, according to Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson. The encouraging figure was helped by a burgeoning job market and a growing labor force. The labor force saw an increase of 154, making a total of 63,354 for the end of the month, an increase of 963 compared to November 2022. The city ended the month with 61,379 employed residents. Valdosta also had 57,400 jobs by the end of November.
Unemployment claims in Valdosta in November 2023 also reduced by 14, indicating a six percent decrease. When comparing November 2023 claims to those in 2022, there was a notable decrease of 16 percent with 41 fewer claims. All 12 regions in Georgia also experienced a decrease in unemployment ranging between 0.4 and 0.6 percentage points in November.
