The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services recently released data indicating a slight increase in the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from 3.2% in October to 3.3% in November. The November 2023 rate was lower, standing at 2.9%. The increase in unemployment rates between October and November was primarily due to usual seasonal layoffs in sectors such as leisure and hospitality.

Counties such as Teton, Sublette, Park, and Hot Springs saw the most significant increases in their unemployment rates, while Niobrara county maintained its unemployment rate at 2.6%. Notably, unemployment rates in November 2024 rose from the previous year in every state county. Western Wyoming counties — Sublette, Teton, and Uinta — recorded the highest rates. On the other hand, Niobrara and Converse counties reported the lowest unemployment rates.

The Current Employment Statistics (CES) estimates showed that total nonfarm employment in Wyoming rose from 291,400 in November 2023 to 295,100 in November 2024, demonstrating an increase of 3,700 jobs, which translates to a 1.3% job increase. The data for December unemployment will be released on Jan. 29.
