The unemployment rate in Indiana increased by a tenth of a percentage point last month, reaching 3.7 percent. This is the highest the rate has been in over two years, matching the U.S. national unemployment rate. This is unusual as it’s the first time in more than three and a half years that the state’s rate has not been lower than that of the U.S. as a whole. Economists predict that employment growth will significantly decrease in 2024, leading to potential job losses in the following two years. Despite this, Indiana’s job growth has currently been around 2 percent, surpassing previous forecasts. The labor force participation rate in Indiana, which accounts for those employed and those actively seeking employment, remained steady at 63.3 percent in November, a rate that surpasses the national average.
