Only 42% of America's Top 100 Companies Provide Six Weeks of Parental Leave, Survey Discloses
Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York declared that New York would be the first state in the United States to provide paid leave for prenatal care beginning in 2025. Moreover, corporations are broadening their reproductive and maternal healthcare provisions. However, a new study suggests there is still ample room for enhancement. It was found that for Gen Z and Millennial job seekers, maternal and reproductive benefits were essential factors in their job selection process.
The Reproductive and Maternal Health Compass (RMH Compass) discovered in a study that the policies offered by U.S enterprises differ significantly. After conducting a survey of the top 100 U.S. employers, RMH released its Corporate Index report. The findings revealed that out of the 100 companies, just 42 provide a minimum of six weeks of paid leave to parents. Only 29 provide an extra two weeks to women who give birth, and merely 14 offer up to 12 weeks of paid leave.
Flory Wilson, Founder and CEO of RMH Compass, emphasized the importance of parental leave, saying it should be universally provided. She added that more corporations are moving toward extended leaves and offering flexibility with their leave policies. She noted that not all small and medium-sized employers are offering these benefits yet. She argued that doing so could benefit both employees and employers, as happy employees are generally more loyal and engaged, leading to improved retention rates.
