Paid Family Leave Notice Requirement Compliance Deadline for D.C. Employers is February 1
The D.C. Department of Employment Services (DOES) has issued a new Paid Family Leave notice/poster. It must be displayed prominently, such as in locations where employment-related information is posted, and must be provided to employees by February 1, 2024. The new notice becomes effective in October 2023 and stipulates an increase in the maximum weekly benefit to $1,118, up from the previous maximum of $1,049 from October 2022 to October 2023. The annual adjustment of the maximum weekly benefit amount is a requirement of the Universal Paid Leave Act and takes effect each October. This change is aligned with any annual average increase in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers for the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the prior calendar year. The increase can only be applied if the D.C. Chief Financial Officer certifies that the Universal Paid Leave Fund has sufficient funds to accommodate the maximum weekly benefit each year. Employers are advised to display this notice and distribute it to their employees prior to February 1, 2024.
