Promoting Civil Rights Understanding through New American Sign Language Video Series
The Hawaii Civil Rights Commission (HCRC) and the Hawaii State Disability and Communication Access Board (DCAB) have launched a video series outlining basic civil rights in American Sign Language. This initiative manifests in response to the request of DCAB and community advocates to enhance access to information for those whose primary language is ASL. The series includes five videos that discuss individual rights, communication access discrimination, employment discrimination, housing discrimination and the process of filing a complaint in incidents of discrimination. The goal is to amplify the understanding of Americans with disabilities about their rights and courses of action when these rights are being infringed upon.
