Rahul Gandhi Attributes Rising Smartphone Addiction Among Indian Youth to Unemployment in Modi's Administration
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently asserted that high unemployment rates under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government are leading to increased smartphone addiction among Indian youth. In a speech during a protest, he said, An average Indian youth spends 7 and a half hours on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and generally looking at his phone. Because Narendra Modi has failed to get employment for India’s youth.
Rahul’s comments were made in relation to a protest and Parliament security breach that occurred in December. According to him, while the security breach was undoubtedly serious, it is crucial to understand the reason behind it: unemployment. He claimed that the youth of the country resort to such protests due to lack of employment opportunities.
This protest followed the suspension of a record 146 Opposition MPs from Parliament during the Winter Session. They were suspended for disorderly conduct, and their main demand was a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Parliament security breach.
Rahul also mentioned a controversial video he recorded featuring an Opposition protest, and criticized the media for focusing more on the video than on the country’s unemployment issue.
