Monotype, the international leader in type and technology, revealed that the award-winning Colophon Foundry has become part of the Monotype family. Colophon, established in 2009 by Anthony Sheret and Edd Harrington, is recognized for its bespoke type design for global brands and its innovative type technology tools. Its portfolio boasts custom work with notable brands worldwide.

The London-based foundry has a library of 85 type families and boasts a team of eight world-class creatives. Colophon’s work includes the Canva Sans custom type for Canva and a dynamic multi-personality typeface for British art school Central Saint Martins. Their catalogue includes modern classics like Aperçu, a popular font among some of the world’s most recognizable brands.

Tom Rickner, Senior Director of the Monotype Studio, praised the Colophon team’s talent and reputation. He expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, noting that it would extend the capabilities and reach of Monotype.

Colophon’s Sheret and Harrington are eager about contributing to their foundry’s new chapter within Monotype. Sheret believes the collaboration brings fresh opportunities for innovation, while Harrington expects the resources within Monotype to foster continual production of world-class typographic solutions. Monotype’s CEO Ninan Chacko echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement about welcoming Colophon to the Monotype team and sustaining Colophon’s long history of creating impactful custom type for global brands.
