Showcasing Eco-Friendly Film and Photography Innovators at Saatchi Gallery
The exhibition ‘Metamorphosis: Innovation in Eco Photography & Film’ at the Sloane Square gallery features works by artists Almudena Romero, Edd Carr, Hannah Fletcher, and Scott Hunter. Known for their dedication to eco-friendly practices, these artists have demonstrated how photography and film, historically ecologically wasteful mediums, can be transformed into environmentally friendly art forms.
Romero uses naturally occurring photographic processes and encases her works in resin, allowing them to be handled like fossils. Carr, co-director of Sustainable Darkroom, uses eco-friendly photography alternatives to create films commenting on the human-ecological crisis. Fletcher, the founder and executive director of Sustainable Darkroom, incorporates waste materials into her work, questioning the life cycle and value of materials. Finally, Hunter adds an experimental touch to his works, using organic materials and non-toxic methods to process photographs, challenging traditional anthropocentric views.
The exhibition is running until 28 July at the Saatchi Gallery. The Italian winery Pasqua Wines sponsors it, marking their first international artistic collaboration. The winery’s CEO, Riccardo Pasqua, emphasises that creativity should be cultivated with care, just like are Earth should be.
Edd Carr, in addition to his exhibition work, is recognised for his significant contribution as the co-director of Sustainable Darkroom. The organisation focuses on creating eco-friendly alternatives within Photography.
