In November, Jackson County’s unemployment rate was reported to be 2.9%, according to the recent statistics from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. This was a slight increase from October’s final rate of 2.8%. During this period, 22,184 county residents were employed, a decrease of 774 from November 2022 when 22,958 residents were working at a jobless rate of 2.6%. The report also showed that 674 residents were actively job searching in November, compared to 605 in November the previous year. The labor force in the county also reduced to 22,858 from the previous year’s figure of 22,958. However, the county’s unemployment rate was lower than the state’s average of 3.4% and the national average of 3.5%. Other neighboring counties’ preliminary unemployment rates in November included Bartholomew at 3.0%, Brown at 3.2%, Jennings at 3.3%, Lawrence at 3.7%, Monroe at 3.4%, Scott at 3.6%, and Washington at 3.2%. The state’s lowest rate was recorded in Gibson County (2.5%) and the highest in Howard County (6.6%).
