Springfield City Council Grants Paid Family Leave to Part-Time City Workers
Starting next year, under a new provision signed into law by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, all Illinois employers will be required to provide 40 hours of paid family leave to their employees. In line with this, the Springfield City Council has passed an ordinance that will authorise paid leave for part-time city employees. This measure builds on already existing provisions for full-time City of Springfield employees who were previously provided with paid leave. While the city decided not to include full-time employees in the new law, private businesses in Springfield must adhere to the provisions outlined by the governor. The new law will become effective from January 1st.
