The Unemployment Crisis in the Health Sector: A Result of Inadequate Planning and Government Corruption - SAMA Insights
The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has pointed to poor planning and corruption by government officials as the cause of an unemployment crisis affecting over 800 qualified doctors. The South African Medical Association Trade Union (SAMATU) believes that budget constraints in the health department are leaving many trained medical professionals without jobs. Mvuyisi Mzukwa from SAMA claims that the medical fraternity is suffering due to the government’s poor governance and leadership. He also highlighted the severe shortage of health workers on the ground, a fact admitted by the minister in Parliament. Despite the situation, there are still difficulties due to inadequate resources.
