Edd China is an English television presenter, mechanic and inventor, best known for his appearances on the Discovery Channel’s Wheeler Dealers. He is also notable for creating the Casual Lofa, a drivable sofa. Along with this, he has gained several records in the Guinness Book of World Records for his unique inventions like the fastest furniture, and fastest toilet, among others.
Born on May 9, 1971 in London, China developed a passion for cars and mechanics from a young age. He attended King Edward’s School, Witley and later London South Bank University, where he earned an engineering product design degree. While studying there, he built the drivable Casual Lofa to fundraise for an expedition to Belize.
After creating the innovative driving sofa, China landed his first television job as a special effects technician for Father Ted in 1994. Following this, he formed Cummfy Banana Limited in 1999, a platform for his bold inventions.
China gained more fame in 2003 when he teamed up with Mike Brewer to host the car program, Wheeler Dealers on the Discovery Channel. He co-presented for 13 series between 2003 to 2017 before leaving due to creative differences.
Outside of Wheeler Dealers , China also appeared on numerous other television shows and maintained a successful YouTube channel, where he launched the show Edd China’s Workshop Diaries in 2021. Through his career, he has achieved multiple Guinness World Record titles and maintains a net worth of approximately $3 million.
