November saw a rise in Mexico’s unemployment rate to 2.8%, according to statistics released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). This increase was in line with market expectations, rising 0.2 percentage points from 2.6% in October. The active workforce in November numbered 59.8 million, an increase of 827,000 from November of the previous year, as per INEGI’s figures. Out of this economically active population, 97.3% or 58.2 million people were employed, up 911,000 from the same month in 2022. The jobless population in November was 1.6 million, with the unemployment rate standing at 2.7% of the active workforce.
