The Fort Wayne Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Allen, Wells, and Whitley counties, had an unemployment rate of 4.1% compared to 3.0% in November 2023. Of the six counties, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben counties witnessed decreases in their labor forces and correspondingly in the number of people employed. Meanwhile, all counties experienced an increase in the number of people unemployed.

The state of Indiana’s unemployment rate as of November was 4.4%. In contrast, the national unemployment rate for November was 4.2%. Indiana’s labor force participation rate stands at 63.4%, slightly higher than the national rate of 62.5%. This percentage includes Hoosiers aged 16 and older who are either working or actively seeking employment. Indiana’s overall labor force currently stands at its highest on record, with 3,442,250 individuals.
