The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the overall employment situation in China is steady, based on the fact that the national urban surveyed unemployment rate in November was 5%. This figure met expectations and remained the same as October’s rate. Looking more closely, the unemployment rate within the province labor force was 5.1%, whilst counter-intuitively, the rate among out-of-province households was a lower 4.7%. The rate fell further among out-of-province rural households, to 4.4%. Moreover, across 31 major cities, the urban surveyed unemployment rate matched the national figure of 5%. The report also stated that the average weekly working hours for employed enterprise workers nationwide was 48.9 hours.
