Paid leave benefits are becoming increasingly crucial in today’s competitive business landscape. However, implementing a competitive paid leave package is challenged by the lack of a standard package and transparency of benefits. In response, the National Partnership for Women & Families has introduced a new initiative, the Leading on Leave Index. The index offers companies cost-free resources, allowing them to better benchmark their paid leave policies and design competitive plans.

Demand for paid leave is on the rise among all generations of US employees, with Gen Z workers valuing paid leave highly. As a result, a significant number of US companies across various sectors plan to revise their paid leave offerings. Parental leave, family care leave, medical and disability leave, and bereavement leave are just a few types of paid leave that are considered during policy revisions.

In launching this initiative, the National Partnership for Women & Families is leveraging its decades-long paid leave expertise to provide a useful resource for companies wishing to improve their paid leave benefit plans. Private sector companies of any size that offer any amount of paid leave are invited to apply for a participation slot in the Leading on Leave Index.

Companies participating in the Leading on Leave Index will receive a paid leave action plan, the latest data on industry trends, and best practice guidance. This valuable information will enable them to benchmark their policies against peers and design more competitive leave plans. Each participant will be scored based on their current paid leave policies, and those scoring as using best practices will have the opportunity to be recognized in NPWF publications.
