Trial Set for Detroit Couple Accused of Disability Insurance Fraud
The couple from Detroit, Tukua Young and Brandon Young, are set for trial after being accused of fraudulent disability insurance claims amounting to $150,000, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s announcement on Tuesday. The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is committed to working with the Attorney General’s office to prosecute insurance fraud and protect consumers in the region. The charges against Tukua include one count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony, along with counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and committing fraudulent insurance acts. Her husband Brandon also faces similar charges. Both were initially charged back in March. Investigations suggest that the couple filed fraudulent claims stating they were disabled from working at a non-existent group home.
Individuals who suspect insurance fraud can contact the state’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services at (877) 999-6442 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
